Our volunteers are an essential part of the 4-H Youth Development Program.
By volunteering, you are helping to grow the skills of 4-H youth, help them find their spark and become our future leaders.
Ways you can volunteer
Volunteering in 4-H is flexible and rewarding. Share your expertise and experience with 4-H youth in your community and collaborate with other volunteers . . . we all grow together!
4-H offers as wide a variety of projects as our volunteers are willing and able to offer to their community - a project needs to provide hands-on learning and can fall into many categories.

New Volunteers
Process to become a new 4-H Volunteer
1. Find a club
See our list of clubs on the main 4-H page to find one near you; contact the club leader to learn more about the volunteer opportunities available in the club. You may also contact Sierra Washington at swashington@ucanr.edu in the Plumas-Sierra UC Extension office for guidance with the process of becoming a 4-H volunteer.
2. Screening Process
All new volunteers must go through a screening process. Our #1 priority in 4-H is the safety of our youth members. We do all we can to protect young people and keep them safe while they are in our care. When you become a 4-H volunteer, you play a key role in our efforts to keep our youth safe.
Prospective Volunteers must first complete the following:
Volunteer Interest Survey: 4-H Volunteer Interest Survey 2023-24
Your interest survey will be reviewed and from there you will be sent information regarding Enrollment, Livescan fingerprinting and Training as appropriate to your volunteer role.

Returning Volunteers
4-H has grown in California because of the dedication of our volunteers. Some of our volunteers have supported 4-H for 10, 20 and 30 years or more!
Re-apply annually by December 31
All 4-H volunteers must be appointed annually. If you are a current 4-H Adult Volunteer, to serve in the new program year you need to re-apply and be re-appointed by December 31st to continue with no break in service. Volunteers are encouraged to complete re-enrollment and trainings as soon as possible in the new program year, which begins July 1st.
Re-application process
Enroll as a Volunteer in ZSuite: ZSuite 4-H Enrollment (for more information, please see the enrollment page).
When you enroll, you will receive an email with information regarding your required trainings to be completed in Campus Extension.

Note: If you have a break in volunteer service
You have a break in service if you are not currently enrolled as a 4-H volunteer when you apply for the new year. Please follow the process for the New Volunteers when applying. This will include a new Livescan fingerprinting.
